LIGHTING IN COLD STORAGE
Lighting in cold storage facilities is not just a matter of "illumination"; it is also a matter of heat management and energy efficiency. Traditional fluorescent or sodium-vapor lamps both lose performance in cold environments and increase the cooling load by emitting extra heat into the ambient air.
WHY SHOULD LED BE PREFERRED IN COLD ROOMS?
LED lighting for cold rooms is not a luxury, but a technical necessity. Its advantages include:
Low Heat Emission: Traditional lamps emit most of their energy as heat. LEDs, however, are cold light sources. They do not increase the internal temperature of the warehouse, so the cooling system does not consume extra electricity to dissipate this added heat.
High Performance at Low Temperatures: As fluorescent lamps get colder, their light intensity decreases and they begin to flicker. LEDs operate at full efficiency, instantly and brightly, even in extreme cold such as -40°C.
Long Life and Low Maintenance: Replacing lamps in cold rooms is difficult (due to height and cold air). The lifespan of LEDs, exceeding 50,000 hours, reduces maintenance costs to nearly zero.
Instant-On: They are compatible with motion sensors. When the door opens or personnel enter, they reach 100% brightness instantly without a warm-up period.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF COLD STORAGE LED FIXTURES
IP Protection Class (IP65 / IP66): Washing operations or moisture condensation may occur in cold rooms. Luminaires must be fully protected against dust and water (at least IP65).
IK Impact Resistance: In areas with heavy forklift movement or loading, it is important that fixtures are resistant to physical impacts (IK08 or higher).
Body Structure: Corrosion-resistant polycarbonate or special aluminum injection bodies that do not crack in the cold are preferred.
Tempered Glass or Lens: Polycarbonate lenses that do not shatter in case of breakage and are suitable for food safety (HACCP compliant) are used.
LED TYPES BY APPLICATION AREA
Waterproof LED Fixture Standard Cold Rooms (+4°C): Moisture and dust protected, economical, and high light efficiency.
High Bay LED Logistics Warehouses (8m+ ceiling): Powerfully illuminates very large areas from a height.
Frozen Room LEDs Deep Freezers (-18°C / -40°C): Does not malfunction in extreme cold thanks to special driver technology.
